Fragments of Youth

Fragments of Youth explores the complex bond between my younger brother and me, captured in a candid childhood moment and reimagined through the CMYK screen printing process. This piece moves beyond nostalgia, focusing on the enduring connection that shapes and comforts us throughout life. The CMYK layers symbolize the evolving sibling relationship—sometimes harmonious, sometimes imperfect—mirroring the unity and discord inherent in growing up together.

Intentional imperfections in the print reflect the fragmented nature of memory and the lasting impact of early familial bonds. This work invites viewers to reflect on their own sibling relationships, celebrating their complexity and enduring influence.

Process

Creating a CMYK print involves layering cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks to build a full-color image. Each color is printed separately, with careful alignment to ensure accurate registration. The process relies on halftone patterns, where tiny dots of each color blend visually to produce a wide range of tones. It's a meticulous but rewarding technique that transforms a flat image into a vibrant, dynamic print.
